Inner Rave was activated by audience members through their silent disco performance, culminating in artist’s coming out as gay to his immediate family members in Georgia. The musical composition, along with the artist’s confessional narration, touches on themes of othering, shame, vulnerability, generational trauma, and liberation, as they relate to gender norms and domestic homophobia.
The piece explores a deeply rooted shame that often accompanies the experience of being queer. This shame is not just a personal affliction but a societal construct that has, for generations, produced anger, confusion, and self-destruction.
